Hello, my name is Mrs. Kathleen Smith. This is my 29th year teaching 4th grade at Lebanon Elementary School. I am proud to call Lebanon my hometown where I have lived for 27 years with my husband, James. Our 3 sons, Beriah, Brandon, and Blake, have gone through the Lebanon School District.
Fourth grade is an exciting year! Being the first of the intermediate grades, students are encouraged to become more independent learners.
- Once students are comfortable with their reading skills, the emphasis changes from learning to read to reading to learn. With this in mind students are asked to explore text more closely across the curriculum. The English and Language Arts Standards focus on:
1. Key Ideas and Details,
2. Craft and Structure,
3. Integration of Knowledge and Ideas
4. Text Complexity
In the area of math emphasis in all standards is put on Mathematical Practices that consist of:
1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
4. Model with mathematics.
5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
6. Attend to precision.
7. Look for and make use of structure.
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
